Q5: What services can be accessible using the YBridge software?
Q6: I can not access SMB share from a Vista machine. What is wrong?

Q1: What is the Asuns YBridge software?
A1: The Asuns YBridge software is a complete solution to build and manage service oriented secure and reliable TCP connections over a local network or the Internet. Using the YBridge software you can securely access your data located on your home computer while you are traveling or build secure TCP connections between your systems at work.

Q2: What Operation Systems are supported?
A2: The YBridge software has been successfully tested on the following systems: W2000, W2003, XP SP2, Vista.

Q3: Limitations applied to unregistered copy of the software.
A3: The unregistered software has all features open and fully functioning for about two uninterrupted hours of work. After two hours the software will interrupt the connections and you will need to restart the application in order to continue the testing. If you find the software useful and want to continue to use it you will need to obtain a valid license key from Asuns.

Q4: How to create a service in W2000?
A4: This article contains information about creating a user-defined service in W2000: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q137890/

Q5: What services can be accessible using the YBridge software?
A5: Generally speaking the YBridge is not tied to any specific service; the software works on the low TCP/IP level and can be helpful for any application using TCP/IP connections. At the same time please keep in mind there are some applications that have “unusual” behavior on TCP sockets. You might be surprised, but our testing shown the Internet Browsers as an example of these applications. So, please feel free to test your applications as long as you need, using our trial versions of the software.

Q6: I can not access SMB share from a Vista machine. What is wrong?
A6: Vista users in addition to a client listening on the loopback adapter port 139 need to configure an additional client listening on the loopback adapter port 445. Make both clients (ports 139 & 445) pointing to same YBridge server. The next step will be “unblocking” port 445. It will require uninstalling one of updates that Microsoft released for Vista SMBv2; this update has a bug which prevents applications to bind to port 445. If you use SMBv2 you might want to check the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-063 to make a decision if you want to keep this update. After you have decided and uninstalled the update KB942624, you may have to restart your computer. Now start the software (including the newly created client on the loopback adapter port 445) and you should be able to connect to your SMB share from the Vista machine.

Q1: What is Asuns IPCheck?
A1: The purpose of the Asuns IPCheck is a periodical checking of the external IP address and sending a notification if the IP address is changed by the ISP. The software will help those, who have dynamic IPs assigned by an ISP, to know when the IP address is changed and what the current external IP address is. Knowledge of the external IP address will allow you to connect to your private network from outside of your firewall perimeter.

Q2: What Operation Systems are supported?
A2: IPCheck has been successfully tested on the following systems: W2000, W2003, XP SP2, Vista.

Q3: How to start the application?
A3: The software can be started in four ways: a) from Programs/Asuns/IPCheck menu group, b) as a Windows service, c) from Command Prompt, d) by Windows from Startup menu group. Please refer to the Help document should you need details about how to use either of these methods.

Q4: I am receiving a message that I must update the configuration file with valid SMTP Mail Server information… What am I supposed to do?
A4: When you run IPCheck for first time you will be prompted to configure the application by entering data for “smtp_*” parameters. The values will depend on the Mail server you decide to use. Please refer to the Help document should you have questions about configuring the application.

Q5: How often does IPCheck verify my Internet address?
A5: The default value is 45 minutes. You can change this value through IPCheck configuration file by adding/editing “sleep_time” parameter. The minimal value is 20 minutes.

Q6: Is this safe to keep my Internet address in the mailbox on a public mail server?
A6: An external address is like a telephone number that anyone can dial. Just open the command prompt (cmd) and run “nslookup [yourbank].com”. If you entered a correct domain name you will see one or few IPs this name resolves to. Don’t worry - you are not a hacker yet! Internet addresses are not a secret; anyone can “call” them. The secret is how firewalls are configured and how data is encrypted and exchanged. So, it must be very important for you to think what you want to expose to the external world and how to protect your internal network and data from ghosts. The first thing you must have – a firewall. Then decide what ports you want to open for external connection. This is where you must be careful and keep “well known” system ports closed. Usually system ports are below 1024. If you are planning to access your sensitive information from external world, it’s recommended to encrypt the data before transmitting through public network. For these purposes you can use another product from Asuns – YBridge.

Q7: Can I receive a notification message on my mobile device when my ISP changes my IP address?
A7: Yes, the simplest way would be to setup e-mail forwarding from your mailbox to an e-mail address associated with your mobile device.

Q8: I have one DSL line and two computers connected to Internet at home. Should I install IPCheck on each computer?
A8: No, since all your Internet connections are routed through the same DSL modem, your modem has only one external IP address assigned by the ISP. In this case you can run IPCheck on either PC.

Q9: Can I have IPCheck to start automatically when Windows boots?
A9: Yes, there are two ways of doing this: 1) by configuring the application to start when Windows starts application from “Startup” folder, and 2) as a Windows service. The first approach might be the simplest – just start the IPCheck and right click on “IP” icon in your task and select “Add to Startup folder” menu item. Removing is simple too – select “Remove from Startup folder” menu item from same menu list. Please refer to the Help document about configuring IPCheck as a Windows service.

Q10: What can I get from log file?
A10: It is recommended to check log files when you configure the application and then once in a while. Messages in the log can tell you if there are issues accessing external resources.

Q11: How much does it cost?
A11: IPCheck is a freeware that means you can install this software on many computers and redistribute it in the ORIGINAL ZIP or self-installing form without any fees.

Q12: Is complete application source code available?
A12: It is NOT open source. Asuns maintains ownership and a copyright of this software.
